Summary

Ming Press is an academic coursepack development and publishing company. We only collect the information required for instructors to effectively deliver their courses. We are stringent in our handling of data and maintain compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, as well as the organizational policies of our partners regarding the privacy of student records. We will never share or attempt to monetize our users’ data in any fashion.

What personal information do we collect?

When registering on our website, users are required to provide their name, email address, and phone number (for two-factor authentication). We do not collect or store any personally identifiable information (PII) beyond these three data points.

Students purchasing course materials directly through our website will be required to provide a credit or debit card number and the zip code associated with the account for payment and verification purposes. Note, this information never touches our servers and is maintained by a third-party payment service provider. Please see the “Service Providers” section below for additional details.

When do we collect information?

We collect information from users when they register, login, and submit assessments on our website.

How do we use user information?

The personal information of our users is used solely to facilitate the course as required by the course instructor. In order to continually improve the quality of our products, we do aggregate and anonymize general usage data for internal development and testing purposes.

How do we protect your information?

Our application secures user data both at rest and in transit using industry standard encryption. Additionally, our infrastructure runs within a secure, segmented virtual private cloud and is regularly scanned for vulnerabilities and patched on a rolling basis.

Furthermore, we have implemented password policies for our users to ensure sufficient complexity, and regularly review user usage and audit logs to flag any potentially malicious activity for review.

Compliance with Data Protection Laws

Ming Press complies with all applicable provisions of the United States Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, 20 U.S.C. 1232g, 34 CFR Part 99 (FERPA) in receiving and handling personally identifiable information from education records as a "school official" under FERPA.

Do we use 'cookies'?

Yes – we use cookies solely for the purpose of managing authorized user sessions. Our cookies have no tracking purpose or capability outside of our domain.

Third party disclosures

We do not, sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties the personally identifiable information of our users. The sole exception to this rule is business partners who are directly responsible for an aspect of our ongoing business operations, of which there are two: our infrastructure hosting provider and our payment service provider. We may also release your information when we believe that doing so is required by law or to protect ours or others' rights, property, or safety.

Service Providers

We employ third-party companies to facilitate operational aspects of our business. These third-parties may have access to your personal information only to perform limited actions on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.

Payments processor

The payment processor for our website is responsible for the authorization of charges for purchases by our users. In order to maintain PCI compliance, Ming Press does not store any payment related information on our servers. All payment data is transferred directly from the client’s browser to our payment service provider over an encrypted connection. Payment processors are required to adhere to the standards established by PCI DSS.
